Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) in Coronation Street has been away from the cobbles since November last year after deciding her daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) needed help for her bad behaviour (in real life Jenny McAlpine has actually been on maternity leave). Good news as Fiz and Hope are set to return to Weatherfield soon, and with quite a dramatic return storyline!
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) prepares for Fiz and Hope’s return and it’s clear Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) doesn’t share his enthusiasm. Tyrone soon realises with horror that he’s forgotten to enrol Hope at Bessie Street for the new school year.
Whilst Tyrone panics about Hope’s lack of school place, Evelyn suggests he should talk to Brian (Peter Gunn) and see if he can pull any strings with his old contacts. Brian advises Tyrone and Evelyn that unfortunately Hope is too late for a place at Bessie Street, but she’ll be allocated a place at another school. When Evelyn reveals that she’s sorted Hope’s school place, Tyrone is uncertain.
Tyrone and Brian sit down with the Head and they are interrupted by the arrival of Evelyn who announces she’s come to offer moral support. When the Head politely but firmly explains that there’s no room for Hope at Bessie street, Evelyn barricades herself, Tyrone and Brian into the office and stages a protest. Fiz arrives and is shocked to see what she finds!
The police and a reporter turn up at the school as Tyrone pleads with Evelyn to see sense. Brian grabs the key and lets them all out but Evelyn is unrepentant. Furious at Tyrone for missing the deadline she tells him that Hope would be better off back in Birmingham.
It’s certainly not a warm welcome back for Fiz but what lies ahead for her and Hope now they have returned? With Hope’s schooling up in the air, will they have no choice but to go back to Birmingham?
