Learning the news that the doctors think switching Oliver’s life support off is the best thing for him in Coronation Street understandably came as a heart-breaking shock to Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
Since they went to court and the judge concluded that it’s in Oliver’s best interests that his life support be withdrawn, Leanne has announced she wants to launch an Appeal.
But with more people realising Leanne would be fighting a losing battle, people have struggled to support her with the Appeal – including Steve (Simon Gregson). With Leanne’s desperation growing, she resorts to drastic measures to make her voice heard, but eventually ends up making a devastating decision about her son.
Imran (Charlie de Melo) and Elliot tell Leanne that they’re no longer prepared to represent her, and after she begs Imran to help her with the case just as a friend, Imran refuses, and Leanne pushes over a filing cabinet and locks the door.
Having been summoned by Imran, Nick (Ben Price) and Toyah (Georgia Taylor) implore Leanne to let them in. Eventually, Imran drags the filing cabinet out of the way and opens the door.
At the hospital, Oliver suddenly arrests, and Steve begs Leanne to put an end to Oliver’s suffering and let him die with dignity.
Leanne finally announces to Steve, Tracy (Kate Ford) and Toyah that she’s dropped her Appeal. Some emotional scenes coming up as Leanne and Steve prepare to say goodbye to their son.
