Coronation Street might be losing one of it’s much loved characters, as Emma Brooker star Alexandra Mardell has revealed her character’s plans to up sticks and leave the cobbles.
That’s right, after finding out that Steve MacDonald (Simon Gregson) is her biological father, it seems Emma feels as though she has no where left to turn.
With this revelation, and the rocky relationship with her mum, the only way out is for Emma to make a fresh start, away from Weatherfield.
Talking about the character’s decision to leave the town, Alexandra told Metro.co.uk: ‘She’s had enough.
‘She doesn’t have a good relationship with her mum so all the close relationships she’s made on the street were really important to her.’
The star continued: ‘The fresh new one with Steve, but because the trust has just gone with everyone, she thinks, “right I’ve had enough I need to get out of here. It’s too much for me.”
‘She needs someone to show her that there are more reasons for her to stay but she just can’t see them.’
However, whatever her character’s plans are, the 25-year-old actress is hoping to stick around, and we’re so there for that.
She told us: ‘I’ve been here one-and-half years now. It was just for a few months to begin with, for the David Platt storyline which was really good fun.
‘And then just seeing how Emma interacts with everyone on the street and it’s seemed to have gone quite well!’
Alexandra added: ‘I’m here for a good few months but I’m happy to stay for as long as they’ll have me. So fingers crossed!’
We mean, she did just scoop the best newcomer Soap Award.
‘It’s ridiculous,’ the acclaimed actress laughed: ‘I’m still not over winning the award so to get the opportunity to get stuck into this story, I’m really grateful.’
Fans of the soap found out Steve was Emma’s biological father when she revealed her mum lives abroad but was originally from Weatherfield and is called Fiona Middleton.
Liz (Beverly Callard) told a stunned Steve that he probably has another daughter!
And yes, we were just as shook as you.
