Zack Hudson (James Farrar) made his arrival to Walford in Tuesday’s instalment of EastEnders. As Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) spent time with Zack during tonight’s episode, it wasn’t long until the topic of their evil father Gavin came up, and in a powerful scene, Zack revealed the reality of what Gavin was like when he was a child.
Spending the evening in his car, Zack was awoken by Sharon and he quickly told her he was ‘between homes’ at the moment – also known as…he has nowhere to live.
As the two siblings got to know each other in the café, Sharon was curious to know what Gavin was like when Zack was a child, and he told her that his dad used to hit him, but reckoned he probably deserved it. Given Sharon never really knew Gavin, she was horrified Zack thought Gavin’s abuse was something he deserved, possibly hinting at a long journey for this character as he comes to terms with the abuse he sustained as a child.
After sneakily pocketing Sharon’s keys, Zack made her way to her flat, and once Sharon interrupted, Zack told her he was looking for the safety deposit box as he thought he deserved whatever Gavin had left in there.
Annoyingly for them both, all that was in the box was the odd card, miscellaneous items that served no purpose to both Sharon and Zack. An angry Zack threw the box across the room, allowing us to once again see the real side of Zack behind his ‘cheeky chappy’ persona.
As Zack calmed down, he told Sharon about a time where Gavin embarrassed Zack, made him feel awful, small, vulnerable, but after he told the story, he switched back to his joking personality, leaving Sharon concerned there’s more to his brother’s past than he may be comfortable to admit.
As Zack spends more time with Sharon, will he reveal more about what life was like having Gavin as a father?
