Comedian Jason Manford has revealed he was nearly run off the road during a ‘terrifying’ road rage incident that saw him chased down the motorway for 80 miles.
The 38-year-old has detailed the ordeal, after his car was involved in an incident as he was being driven back from a gig in Portsmouth, back to London.
He’d previously performed on Saturday evening at Sinah Warren Hotel on Hayling Island.
Jason claimed a man was blocking a road his Mercedes van was attempting to cross, before he asked for some jumper leads. When his driver Lionel said he didn’t have any, the man allegedly shouted: ‘This is my town,’ and ‘What are you doing on the island?’
‘This is where it got scary,’ he continued. ‘He was driving dangerously by cutting in front of us on the A3, breaking suddenly, coming up behind us, flashing us, beeping us, shouting out of his window, swerving into the road in front.’
‘It was getting to the point where it was a bit terrifying,’ Jason told The Sun.
Adding on his Absolute Radio Show, he said they drove to Sutton Police Station: ‘A police officer came out and they circled the block and found his car just abandoned, nobody in it.
‘It was registered to Hayling Island as well so he’d come all that way. They know everything about him. It was the weirdest experience of my life.’
Jason’s had a spot of bad luck recently, as this incident comes after his audience was evacuated in May after a phone caught fire.
Fans of Jason who gathered to watch the star perform at Salford’s Lyric Theatre had their evening interrupted when a phone caught alight and the entire audience were evacuated from the theatre in the Lowry during the interval, while the fire service attended the scene.
The theatre’s official Twitter claims Jason’s set was only delayed by 20 minutes and confirmed the evacuation was due to an ‘overheated mobile phone’.
‘Our security removed the phone from the venue & the fire service attended as per our emergency procedures,’ read the message.
Jason himself was also evacuated and posted a picture of a fire engine arriving at the theatre while joking his set was ‘on fire’.
