Joe Wicks is still insisting Wensleydale is pronounced ‘Wensley-dar-lay’ and we’re insisting this has us screaming.
So last night Joe, of Lean In 15 fame, took us through his dinner recipe.
With a lot of cheese leftover he explained how he has some burrata he refused to throw out, some brie and finally, some Wensleydale.
You know, the cheese that hails from Yorkshire
When he pointed to the final cheese, he pronounced it, ever so confidently: ‘Wensley-dar-lay’.
Like dalé…like it’s French or something. Despite so clearly being ‘dale’. Because it’s from the dales.
After journalist Grant Tucker shared the clip on Twitter on Sunday night everyone blew up, we were creasing and screaming at the same time. If that’s even possible.
‘I regret to inform you that this is how Joe Wicks pronounces Wensleydale,’ he wrote, as the retweets began and the people chimed in with a lol and a prayer.
‘The wensley-what? @thebodycoach come up to Yorkshire and we’ll tell you how to say it mate. It’s dale,’ one follower explained.
‘As in: a dale. Like the Yorkshire Dales. As in the chipmunks; Chip and Dale. But not as in Dalai Lama. Hope that helps, but come up here and see us anyway.’
Today Joe refused to back down as he shared another video insisting he was saying it right.
Mate, you’re not.
‘I’ve had a few messages from people, silly buggers, trying to say I’m pronouncing that cheese the wrong way. Saying it’s Wensleydale,’ he said as he rode on his expensive Peloton bike.
‘I know my cheeses, I’ve been using it since I was a kid and I know its Wensleydalé.
‘So I’m not going to fall for that one, you silly sausages.’
Of course it took about one second for people to suggest he hit up his friends Wallace and Gromit for some intel on pronunciation.
Is he having a laugh?
One thought so, as they wrote online: ‘As much as I hate the bloke I’m sure he was just messing… and loads have fallen for it by the sound of it.’
We don’t know what to believe anymore.
But we feel like some cheese. Pass the dar-lay!
