Megan Thee Stallion revealed she is finishing her bachelor’s degree to make her late mother proud.
The Savage rapper’s mum, Holly Thomas, died in March 2019 after battling brain cancer, with her grandmother dying in the same month.
Before Holly died, Megan was already attending university and she wanted to make sure she completed her course in health administration for both herself and her mum.
Talking to People, Megan explained of her studies at Texas Southern University: ‘I want to get my degree because I really want my mom to be proud.
‘She saw me going to school before she passed.’
The 25-year-old hopes to complete her degree by next year after completing her coursework online part-time.
‘My grandmother that’s still alive used to be a teacher, so she’s on my butt about finishing school,’ she continued.
‘I’m doing it for me, but I’m also doing it for the women in my family who made me who I am today.’
Megan’s father died when she was just 15, and her mum was always working hard to provide for the family.
Her mum – who she calls her big mama – owned three houses in Houston and Megan always ‘saw her drive’.
‘I know I get a lot of my strength from my mother and both of my grandmothers,’ she added.
Not only is Megan an academic, but the star has also reached number one in the US Billboard Hot 100 with the Savage remix and won two BET Hip Hop Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and a Billboard Women in Music Award.
