Since recovering from breast cancer, Shannen Doherty has opened up about beginning to love her body again.
The actress, whose cancer has been in remission since 2017, has revealed that she ‘really took good care of herself’, but admits that people don’t realise that her body has been through ‘something so incredibly difficult’.
Opening up in a new interview with People.com, she revealed: ‘The funny thing with cancer is that once you’re no longer on chemo or radiation, people think you’re fine, that you bounce back.
‘But what they don’t realise is that your body has been through something so incredibly difficult that your body never fully bounces back.’
But she also admits that she will never ‘be the size she used be’.
‘I’m never going to be the size I used to be,’ she continued.
‘Some of my meds that I’m on keep zapping the collagen out of me, so I’m never going to have a wrinkle-free face. I’m critical of myself. But there are some things you can’t fight.’
The 48-year-old also said that she ‘doesn’t think about the fact that she is in remission’, and says she feels ‘lucky’ to be alive today.
Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in March 2015, with the disease soon spreading to her lymph nodes.
She underwent a single mastectomy in May 2016, and later chemotherapy and radiotherapy following surgery, before her cancer went into remission in April 2017.
In the meantime, Shannen is currently starring in BH90210, the sixth series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise.
The series also sees the return of many other cast members from the original show, such as Jason Priestly and Jennie Garth, with the cast playing fictionalised versions of themselves as they attempt to launch a reboot for the original series.
