The Great British Bake Off has been a national hit ever since viewers first laid eyes on the famous GBBO tent back in 2010. Now the series will be returning to Channel 4 with another year of tense competition between the bakers. The contestants have been revealed and the judges are returning – but who will win? Express.co.uk has all of the details on the frontrunner so far.
Who will win Great British Bake Off 2019?
Bake Off 2019 may not start until next Tuesday (August 27) but viewers are already placing their bets on who could walk away with the top prize in this year’s competition.
Now that Channel 4 has unveiled all of the competitors in this year’s show, fans of the show have been speculating on who could have the advantage.
According to Betway, the current frontrunner for the title is 28-year-old Alice at 11/2.
The geography teacher is an early favourite to win after the names of this year’s line-up was revealed.
Alice started baking at just 15-years-old after a back operation left her unable to do any sport.
The bookmakers have put fellow baker Amelia closely behind at 6/1 as fans have been charmed by the fashion designer’s love of making her bakes from fresh farm produce.
The leading male in the competition so far is theatre manager Michael, who comes in at 7/1 thanks to his inspiring story of learning to bake from his great-grandparents handwritten recipes.
Betway’s Alan Alger said of the early odds: “It’s the return of one of Britain’s most loved TV shows and with the new series of the Great British Bake Off just over a week away, we’ve installed Alice as the favourite to take home the title.
“The geography teacher from Essex is the 11/2 favourite to be crowned the Bake Off queen, with Amelia from Yorkshire her closest pursuer at 7/1.
“Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will be on the lookout for that under-proofed loaf or cake with a soggy bottom and we make Dan the 6/1 favourite to be the first contestant to leave the tent.”
Ladbrokes has also put Alice and Amelia in the first two slots at 4/1 and 9/2, respectively.
However, unlike Betway, the bookies have put marketing consultant Priya, veterinary surgeon Rosie and shop assistant Steph all in joint third with 5/1.
According to research by bookmakers BWin on every episode of the show, it is likely that a woman will win as twice as many have been crowned as the men so far.
What’s more, the analysis revealed that bakers under 30 are more than twice as likely to reach the final as those over 50.
According to the bookies, this all points to 28-year-old Steph ticking the most boxes before the series starts.
Viewers will get more of an idea of who will make it out on top when it returns on Tuesday.
The baking series will be back with another 10 weeks of the tense competition.
Each week, the contestants will be tested on their baking skills, undertaking technical, signature and showstopper challenges.
The 13 competitors will be judged by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood once again on the Channel 4 show.
Comedians Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will also be back hosting to help ease the tension in the famous GBBO tent.
