James Jordan was a runaway success on Dancing On Ice earlier this year, going on to swipe the silver trophy with his professional skating partner Alexandra Schauman.
The former Strictly Come Dancing professional consistently wowed the judges with his technique and skills on the ice, and he only continued to improve as the show went along.
While the dancer received great speculation over whether he had too much of an advantage against the other celebrity contestants, he still beat runner up Wes Nelson in the star-studded final.
Meanwhile notoriously controversial Australian judge Jason Gardiner got into an enormous spat with The Only Way is Essex star Gemma Collins during last year’s series.
The pair managed to make up by the end of the show, but following the controversy Jason has now unexpectedly hung up his acid sharp tongue and said goodbye to the ITV programme for good.
Jason has been a part of the programme since its beginning in 2006.
Posting the statement in an Instagram video today, the 47-year-old choreographer said: “To all of my DOI fans I really thank you for your support and encouragement over the years, I know we’ve gone through some controversies and I’m glad you got my unique judging style and honestly.
“I know there has been a lot of speculation about me and the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice. I wanted to set the record straight, I’ve been an original judge since 2006.”
“I’ve done every series except one, when I was replaced by my good friend and dance sister Louis Spence in 2012,” the judge continued. “The show had been off air for four years and when it was revived I was the only original judge to return.
“The past two series have been new additions to the panel including the fantastic Ashley Banjo and the legends Torvill and Dean.
The star continued: “I have absolutely loved sharing the panel with them.
“After all these years I feel it’s time for me to say goodbye to my judging role and return to things I have been putting on hold and have been on the back burner for a while. It’s because of you I never cowered or shied away from serving up the truth.”
Earlier this year, This Morning host Ruth Langsford speculated last year’s winner James could take over Dame Darcey Bussell on the Strictly Come Dancing panel, before it was later revealed Motsi Mabuse would be filling the role.
So could James take over Jason on Dancing On Ice instead? Ruth said: “James Jordan he’d be good, he doesn’t hold back with his comments,” and her husband Eamonn Holmes agreed.
Jason’s statement went on to praise his co-stars, as he said: “Holly, Phil, Jane and Chris we created something we can be really proud of after the ice has finally thawed. We’ve had a lot of laughs, trials and tribulations and I have loved working with all of you.
“To the unsung heroes, the pros and coaches, including Karen Barber, without your hard work we would never have had the success we’ve had, I salute and applaud you.”
What’s more, Jason revealed he will be taking part in a one man show around the same time as the next series of Dancing On Ice next year.
“I am terrified and excited to announce I will be debuting my one man show at the Crazy Coqs at Zedel in January and February next year,” he said. “So if you want to find out a little bit more about me, because I’m like an onion, I have many layers and if you cut me I’ll make you cry.
“Then book tickets, because I promise it will be an evening you won’t forget.”
Dancing On Ice returns to ITV in 2020.
