Mercedes’ new, modern steering system has been banned from Formula One from the beginning of the 2021 season. But, Lewis Hamilton has been cleared to use the DAS system this season.
Mercedes launched their new steering system – the Dual-Axis Steering system, or ‘DAS’ – in pre-season testing.
The new system was solely observed throughout on-board footage of Hamilton’s car in Barcelona.
DAS permits the motive force to alter the toe angle of the entrance wheels by utilizing the steering wheel.
Mercedes technical director James Allison mentioned that he hoped the system would “bring an advantage” to the crew forward of the upcoming season.
But, the Federation Internationale de L’autombile (FIA) has determined to ban the brand new system from 2021.
Mercedes will, nonetheless, be allowed to use DAS through the upcoming marketing campaign.
Hamilton would welcome the choice to use the brand new steering system all through this season, as he goals to retain his world championship.
The FIA confirmed the rule change on Friday, throughout a press convention.
