Strictly Come Dancing 2019 will be returning next month with another series of the hit dancing competition. Both Neil and Katya Jones are expected to return as professional dancers for series 17. However, the married couple announced they have decided to split on Instagram with a joint statement.
How long were Strictly Come Dancing’s Neil and Katya Jones married for?
Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers Neil and Katya Jones have announced their split.
The pair were together for 11 years before they dropped a joint announcement on Instagram on Sunday, August 18.
Neil and Katya were married for five years, having tied the knot back in 2013.
However, they first got together back in 2008 when they made their debut as dancing partners in Blackpool.
Announcing their split, the pair posted a joint statement on both of their Instagram pages, describing their decision to go their separate ways.
The statement read: “Hi everyone, as our fans and loyal supporters you are really important to us and so we wanted to let you know some news.
“After 11 years, we have made the mutual decision to separate. We will always love each other, just in a different way as friends.
“This will never change what a great team we make and we are really proud of everything we have achieved together.”
Despite their relationship split, the pair reiterated they will continue their dancing careers together.
Earlier this year, they went on tour with their dance show Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream, which was described as a modern love story.
The statement went on to say: “Our shared love of dance means we will keep working and dancing together as well as exploring individual projects.
“No matter what we do we will always support and respect each other.
“We wish one another every happiness and we will remain the best of friends. We are really looking forward to getting back to the ballroom and can’t wait to keep on dancing.”
The split comes less than a year after Katya was pictured kissing her Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner Seann Walsh.
However, there has been no suggestion this has anything to do with the couple’s split, a spokesperson told the BBC.
They told the Beeb: “It would be incorrect and unfair to attribute their separation to one isolated incident.”
At the time, the picture caused a media storm and led both the dancer and stand-up comedian to post joint statements about the kiss.
Katya posted on Twitter: “I’m so sorry about any offence or hurt I may have caused with my actions. I wasn’t thinking and it was a one-off mistake after some drinks.
“I love my husband and we are very happy together, this is not a reflection of our relationship.”
Seann wrote: “In light of the story in today’s newspaper I would like to offer my sincere apologies for my actions.
“This is no excuse but it was a one-off drunken mistake which I am truly sorry for.”
Both Neil and Katya are expected to return as professional dancers in this year’s competition.
