A lady who was honoured for 40 years of service to the NHS had her OBE stolen in a distraction theft at her residence in Croydon.
CCTV footage exhibits the burglar strolling up to the lady’s door the place he posed as a builder and requested to check her flat for a leak.
The 89-year-old, who requested to be named solely as Joan, invited him in and he requested her to clear a cabinet for him to check the leak.
He then claimed he had to go away and he or she later realised he had taken her OBE, her purse and £120 in money.
Joan, a retired pharmacist, stated she would love the thief caught as “people that prey on old people are the worst kind”. Police described the suspect as a white man in his fifties, about 5ft 7in and with gray hair.
There have been no arrests.
