Neville insists Solskjaer wants to ‘spend the owners’ cash’ when the switch window re-opens in January and says Manchester United want to bolster the squad with at the least a midfielder and a striker.
He instructed talkSPORT: ‘I fear for Ole. He needs to spend the owners’ cash in January.
‘He’s doing a pure job, he’s getting rid of rather a lot of the players that wanted to go away. He’s clearing out the mess and bringing in players that the followers like, the players who truly need to play for the membership.
‘But they’re properly brief in phrases of high quality. He doesn’t need to be clearing the decks for another person to profit from. He wants to be sure that he advantages.
‘He needs to spend money and be ruthless with the board. He needs to spend their money. He can’t panic however he wants to sign two or three skilled players.
‘The young players are struggling without guidance, they need support. He needs a couple of midfield players and a striker, that’s important.’
Asked which areas Solskjaer ought to be trying to goal in January, Neville added: ‘A minimum of a midfielder and a striker I’d say.
‘Manchester United have found it hard to be smart in the transfer market and January is historically a difficult month to do business so it’s going to be powerful.
‘But the young players – Rashford, Greenwood, James, Pereira, McTominay… they all need experience alongside them. Without some guidance it’s actually tough for them.’
After welcoming Mourinho again to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, Manchester United face arch-rivals and defending champions Man City on the weekend.
