has hit out at Mohamed Salah for selfish play in the dying moments of Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Burnley and said that he understands Sadio Mane’s explosive reaction in the dugout.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross inadvertently deflected in off Chris Wood’s back in the 33rd minute to open the scoring at Turf Moor before goals from Mane and Roberto Firmino sealed a convincing victory for the Reds.

Salah passed up the chance to tee up Mane when the Senegalese had a clear sight of goal at the death and instead opted for a shot himself which was comfortably saved by Nick Pope.

Divock Origi came on to replace Mane shortly after the chance and the former Southampton attacker reacted furiously on the substitutes bench.

While Jenas believes the competition between the two forwards is ‘amazing’, the ex-England and Tottenham midfielder thinks it ‘just spilled over a little bit’ on Saturday due to Salah’s greediness.

‘There are parts of this that I love and parts of this that I really don’t like,’ Jenas said on Match of the Day.

‘This is the part that I don’t like… your team-mates are feeding you constantly and he has to pass that ball, Salah.

‘Firmino is in acres of space, it’s an easy ball and he’s trying to swing his right foot from 20 yards out. That’s not what this Liverpool team are about.

‘And this is why Mane has absolutely lost it because he’s going, “Just slide me in, I slide you in every week! Any chance of you giving me one back?” He doesn’t, he ignores him and this is at 3-0 up.

‘This [Mane’s reaction], weirdly enough, is the part about it that I actually quite like because they’re 3-0 up, he’s been brought off and he doesn’t feel like he should have been brought off.

‘This is the desire of these Liverpool players to score goals. He won the Golden Boot last year with Salah and he’s thinking he wants that Golden Boot again.

‘Yeah [it’s competitive between them] and that’s amazing. That’s why they score so many goals, that’s why there’s so much competition and it just spilled over a little bit today.’

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson insisted Mane was ‘laughing and joking’ in the dressing room after win.

‘I couldn’t really understand at first, but then when he came in, he was laughing and joking,’ Henderson said.

‘The most important thing was we got the result, Sadio knows that.

‘He performed really well again. Him and Bobby were really big second ball. He had a fantastic game

‘Like I said, we want to push each other. We want to improve all the time. I quite like that now and again. I think we need it.’

Jurgen Klopp played down Mane’s emotional reaction in the dugout at Burnley and praised his attackers for their performances.

‘Sadio cannot hide his emotions, I like that. But all sorted. We spoke about it and everything is fine,’ he said.

‘We are individuals, we are emotional. It was a situation in a game.

‘What else could have happened? It was not a phone call.’
