The Red Devils endured a surprising begin to the season and stay simply seventh despite profitable two of their final three video games and drawing to Premier League leaders Liverpool final month.
Solskjaer described his staff’s 3-1 win over Brighton on Sunday as ‘their best performance of the season’ and Neville has been inspired by United’s latest type.
But the previous England defender insists United still need to bolster Solskjaer’s squad with ‘four of five players with real quality and experience’.
‘It’s been a very good month for Manchester United barring the Bournemouth defeat,’ Neville informed Sky Sports.
‘That game was frustrating and took us back a few steps but generally it’s been a greater month than the one earlier than.
‘You can see some real excitement with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Daniel James, there’s one thing to work on there.
‘Defensively, with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, there’s one thing to work on there too. The younger boy Brandon Williams offers me quite a lot of hope.’
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the Red Devils hero added: ‘Look, Manchester United need 4 or 5 gamers with actual high quality and expertise.
‘They need one other centre again, they need a left again and a few central midfielders and a striker or a ahead.
‘That’s not going to vary and received’t change fully even after January. But there’s one thing there.’
