The Frenchman has been picked to lead the line as the club’s No.9, with Rashford playing off the left, and he has justified that decision with two goals in as many games, finishing a wonderful team move in Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Molineux.
But Rashford believes Martial can be even more prolific if he gets better – and quicker – service and has encouraged the team to play at a faster tempo to suit him.
‘We have to do better to try and find him,’ Rashford told MUTV after the game. ‘But I think that just comes with the tempo that we play at.
‘If we play it a bit quicker through the midfield, into the No.10s or the wingers, we can get him on the ball more. And for me, when he gets on the ball, he can start to make things happen.
‘It was a beautiful goal, it’s something we spoke about especially against a team like Wolves who try and defend so narrow.
‘The spaces, as a No.9, they’re sort of to the sides of the box and so he was making those runs all game.’
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was similarly effusive in his praise of Martial after the game.
The United boss said: ‘Very good finish. He can finish both right and left foot. Good run down the side, good pass, so all over that was a very, very good goal. Clinical, which we know we have to be because at this level you have to take your chances.’
