Romelu Lukaku has praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s work at Manchester United and says he loves his former boss ‘as a manager and as a person’.

The Belgium international spent less than a year playing under Solskjaer at Old Trafford before he was sold to Inter in a £74 million deal.

Lukaku has since revealed that he was the one who asked to leave United, while Solskjaer gave the green light for the striker to depart even though a replacement was not lined up.

United have kicked on since Lukaku’s departure, with Solskjaer’s side sitting in second place in the Premier League, 10 points behind leaders Manchester City.

And in a Q&A with fans on Twitter, Lukaku gave a glowing assessment of Solskjaer’s reign.

‘You guys have to know I love him as a manager and as a person and I wish him nothing but the best.’

Lukaku also issued a similar verdict when asked about Marcus Rashford.

‘He is improving all the time! I love to see him play,’ said the Belgian.

‘One of the most talented I’ve played with for sure.’

Lukaku began life in the Premier League at Chelsea but was eventually sold after making just 15 first-team appearances.

But when asked how he felt towards his former club, Lukaku replied: ‘Nothing but love.

‘They gave me an opportunity to come to the Premier League
as a kid.

‘You can’t have everything in life and I’m cool with that. I’m glad that experience got me to where I am today.’
