Bodycam footage has captured the second a group assist officer was stabbed with a pair of scissors by a wanted burglar.
PCSO Sam Bushen believed he had managed to calm Sam Reynolds, 35, down when he went to detain him for a string of burglaries and thefts in Taunton, Somerset.
PCSO Bushen mentioned: ‘I shortly stopped my car and approached Reynolds and requested him to stop, whereby he tried to swing a punch in the direction of me.
‘I caught his arm and restrained him to the ground to defend myself and that’s when my body-worn video digicam was activated.
‘From that point Reynolds apologised and asked if he could have a cigarette.’
He then reached into his bag for a cigarette lighter, however pulls out the scissors as an alternative.
PCSO Bushen added: ‘I keep in mind being in a little bit of daze, like “has this actually happened? How and why did this happen to me?”
‘Physically the wound was minor and simply wanted cleansing and to be dressed. But mentally I was exhausted.
‘Something I have never had to deal with in my head is someone trying to stab me and actually stabbing me. So that had an effect.’
Despite his accidents, he saved maintain of Reynolds till police arrived. Reynolds was jailed to 5 years in jail.
PCSO Bushen added: ‘We are human beings trying to help solve people’s issues.
‘We have families, children and people in our lives just like you do and we want to go home safe to them each and every day.’
