The intercourse assault trial of former England footballer Paul Gascoigne started immediately.
The 52-year-old former Tottenham and Rangers midfielder was drunk and swearing on a prepare close to Darlington in August final 12 months when he tried to sit down on a lady and pressure himself upon her, leaving her ‘frozen’ with concern, Teesside Crown Court heard immediately.
Gascoigne took her face in his fingers and kissed her earlier than different passengers intervened.
He would later ‘make up a story’ saying he had ‘kissed a fat lass’ to spice up her confidence.
He was arrested at his lodge in Jesmond, Newcastle.The footballer defended his actions to police saying she was being abused by different passengers due to her weight, and he kissed her to ‘reassure her’.
Prosecuting, William Mousley QC stated: ‘Instead of displaying any actual contrition he lied by making up a narrative that he had overheard somebody abusing her about her construct and weight.
‘He had given her, he stated, a peck on the lips to reassure her as a result of he felt sorry for her. He appeared to point that what he had achieved was not critical and nothing to be bothered about.
‘He denied trying to sit on her and said that if his behaviour was sexual harassment then he had been a victim for 20 years or more every time he had been kissed. His lies were deliberate and told out of guilt but he was not prepared to face up to them.’
Speaking from behind a display to keep up her anonymity, the sufferer stated she ‘completely froze’ when he kissed her.
She instructed the courtroom: ‘He was trying to sit on my lap almost. I didn’t need to make a fuss, I knew I used to be not too removed from the place I wished to get off, I didn’t need to do something to antagonise or make a fuss.
‘He stored saying sorry and I stored simply searching of the window. He stated sorry a second time and then tapped my arm once more and I rotated. He grabbed my face, kissed me full on the lips.
‘I used to be shocked, it got here fully out of the blue. I pushed him off, I pushed him away and stated that’s not OK, get off. It was on the mouth, I stored my mouth firmly shut, I simply fully froze.
‘It was sloppy, not a peck on the cheek that you might give someone, it was very full on the lips and it was forceful. He just kind of mumbled.’
Passenger Rebecca Jacques boarded at Chesterfield and sat throughout the aisle from Gascoigne.
She stated of the incident: ‘He put his hand on the lady’s head and he put his tongue in her mouth. I used to be sitting facet on so I may see precisely what he had achieved. It was clear he had obtained carried away with no matter he thought was occurring.’
The witness added that when she requested a male passenger why he had not achieved something she was instructed: ‘It’s Paul Gascoigne.’
Gascoigne denies one depend of sexual assault. The trial continues at Tuesday.
