The race to exchange Commons speaker has already begun, after he introduced he would be stepping down yesterday.

Labour’s Harriet Harman has confirmed that she will be running to exchange Mr Bercow, who stated he would be leaving his put up by 31 October.

Ms Harman advised BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘We have gotten very divided instances in the nation and Parliament itself is split.

‘I think what Parliament has to do, and the speaker has to do, is to ensure that Parliament can have its say… and that is what John Bercow has sought to do.’

Dame Rosie Winterton, the second deputy speaker has additionally been tipped to run.

She is presently Labour MP for Doncaster and served as the Parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Lord Chancellor’s Department in 2001.
